  • The Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas (PBD) was celebrated today in the Chancery premises. Mr. Ibrahim Jean Etienne, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice, Government of Niger, was the Chief Guest to the PBD celebrations. He was accompanied by Mr. Yazi Manou, Director of Panel Affairs and Grace, Niger Ministry of Justice. The celebration began by welcoming remarks followed by Ambassador’s Address. The significance of PBD as well as progress in bilateral relations between India and Niger were highlighted. As the monthly program on the Fundamental Duties was also clubbed with the PBD celebrations, in today’s event the Fundamental Duty of safeguarding public property and adjure violence was focussed. A video on PBD download from YouTube was screened to the invitees. In his Address, Mr. Ibrahim thanked the Embassy for having been invited. He underlined that Niger shares the values of Indian Constitution, and appreciated India’s support to Niger in the framework of bilateral relations. Drawing similarities between the Constitutions of two countries, he mentioned that Niger Constitution also enshrines duties which Niger nationals are supposed to scrupulously follow. He spoke in French language. The live telecast of EAM’s interaction with Indian Diaspora in selected Missions today was also screened to the invitees. It was a working day and there were about 40-45 invitees from Indian Diaspora, local Media, who attended. The material received from Khadi and Village Industries Corporation was also suitably displayed to the invitees. Light refreshments were served after the celebrations.
